Chashma e Gham – A Collection of Marsia and Laments

Chashma e Gham is a collection of elegiac poetry (Marsia) written by the renowned poet Naseem Amrohi. This literary work gathers a series of lamentations that reflect on the historical events connected with the family of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), particularly the tragedies that followed the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) in Karbala. The poetry included in this collection is written in both Urdu and Punjabi, making it accessible to a wide range of readers and listeners.

The compilation of Chashma e Gham was originally prepared at the request of the respected scholar and orator Allama Rasheed Turabi. The purpose behind compiling this collection was to provide reciters of lamentation poetry, especially those involved in traditional gatherings of remembrance, with a comprehensive set of verses suitable for different occasions of mourning and reflection.

The collection includes poetic narratives that describe the events and hardships faced by the family of the Prophet after the passing of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and especially after the tragedy of Karbala. These marsias recount historical episodes with emotional depth and literary expression, highlighting themes of sacrifice, patience, and devotion.

Initially, the book was published by the Anjuman Soz Khwanan Karachi in a limited edition, which was widely appreciated by readers and reciters. Due to its popularity and continued demand, additional editions were later printed so that more people could benefit from this collection of poetry.

Overall, Chashma e Gham stands as a valuable literary contribution to the tradition of Urdu and Punjabi marsia poetry. The collection preserves emotional and historical reflections related to Karbala and continues to serve as a useful resource for those interested in devotional poetry and cultural heritage.
