Food of Humans [Quran Aur Science 11]

The Holy Quran is a religious book of Muslims. In many verses of the Quran, various foods are discussed. It seems that limited studies were performed on the identification of the nutritional verses. Therefore, the aims of the present study were to establish a numerical model system for studying the nutritional verses of Quran. Findings indicated that aliment/foods, eating, water/drinking words, and their derivatives are repeated 171, 109, and 131 times in the Holy Quran, respectively. According to the Holy Quran, except Haram foods (pork meat, wine, carrion meat, blood, and meat of animals not slaughtered properly in the Islamic manner), all foods are tayyib (lawful). The Holy Quran contains many foodstuffs and verses with nutritional concepts and it recommends eating a varied and balanced diet.

Eating the foods as prescribed by Allah in the Quran is just one way to go towards the path of Allah/ But it is a very important one. The Quran tells us what to put in our bodies so that we can train ourselves and discipline ourselves according to the other commandments mentioned by Allah in the Quran. That is why Allah says that the food signs for people to understand after every verse.

Another verse about food mentioned in the Quran is as follows which intricately describes the process that takes place for us to get our food: “He sends down water from the sky from which We bring forth growth of every kind, and from that We bring forth the green shoots and from them We bring forth close packed seeds, and, from that spathes of the date-palm, date clusters hanging down, and gardens of grapes and olives and pomegranates, both similar and dissimilar. Look at their fruits as they bear fruit and ripen. There are signs in that for people who believe.” (6:99)
