The edition currently under discussion is its authorized Urdu translation, published with the permission of the author. The book primarily focuses on the events of March and April 1971, when widespread unrest and violence erupted in East Pakistan under the political leadership of the Awami League. It also discusses the developments following 16 December 1971, when Indian forces took control of East Pakistan, and highlights the hardships faced by non-Bengali communities during that time.
The author, Qutubuddin Aziz (September 1929, Lucknow – 2015, Karachi), was an accomplished journalist, researcher, and diplomat. He received his early education in Hyderabad Deccan and Madras, and later earned a higher degree from the London School of Economics. He actively participated in the Pakistan Movement under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
