Life, Legacy and Martyrdom of the Tenth Imam
The 10th Imam Ali Naqi was one of the most respected spiritual leaders in Islamic history. His name was Ali bin Muhammad (a.s.), and he is widely known by his title Al-Hadi. Born in Madina in 212 A.H., he was the son of a noble mother, Samana al-Maghribiya. His patronymic name was Abu al-Hasan al-Askari. From an early age, he was recognized for his deep knowledge, piety, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to the teachings of Islam.

He is remembered as a protector of faith, a guardian of moral values, and a guiding light for believers. Throughout his life, he stood firmly against the oppressive Abbasid rulers of his time. Despite political pressure and constant surveillance, he never compromised on truth or justice. He raised his voice against tyranny and upheld the principles of obedience to Allah in every aspect of life.

During the reign of Mu‘tazz bin Mutawakkil, Imam Ali an-Naqi (a.s.) was martyred through poisoning in 254 A.H. in Samarrah, Iraq. According to historical reports, the poisoning was arranged through official channels. He was martyred on Monday, 3rd Rajab 254 A.H. At the time of his passing, only his son, Imam Hasan al-Askari (a.s.), was present. He performed the final rites, including ghusl and kafan, and mourned deeply for his father. The Imam is buried in Samarrah, where his shrine remains a place of respect and remembrance.
