Ibn e Safi, the pen name of Asrar Ahmed, was one of the most popular and influential Urdu fiction writers in South Asia. He was born on 26 July 1928 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, during British India. From an early age, he showed a passion for writing and began creating stories in the 1940s. After the partition of the subcontinent, he migrated to Pakistan in 1952 and settled in Karachi, where he continued his literary career.
He is best known for his famous series “Jasusi Duniya” and “Imran Series,” which gained immense popularity among readers of all ages. Ibn e Safi wrote around 120 books for Imran Series and approximately 125 novels for Jasusi Duniya. His writing style was unique, combining suspense, action, mystery, humor, and romance in a way that kept readers engaged and entertained.
His characters, especially Colonel Faridi and Ali Imran, became iconic figures in Urdu literature. These characters were portrayed as intelligent, brave, and morally strong individuals with exceptional skills in investigation and strategy. Their adventures not only entertained readers but also reflected discipline, intelligence, and a strong sense of justice.
Ibn e Safi’s contribution to Urdu language and literature is significant. His writing is often regarded as a model of clear, modern Urdu prose. His works are considered so well-structured that they are sometimes used as examples for teaching Urdu writing at advanced levels.
Despite facing personal challenges, including periods of illness, he continued to write and produce outstanding literary work. After recovering, he returned with renewed energy and created some of his most memorable novels. His dedication and creativity made him one of the most widely read authors in the region.
Ibn e Safi passed away on 26 July 1980, leaving behind a rich legacy of literature that continues to be read and appreciated by generations. His novels remain a cornerstone of Urdu popular fiction and continue to inspire writers and readers alike.
