In many fields of knowledge, encyclopedias have been compiled by scholars to gather information in an organized and accessible form. For a long time, however, the Muslim world lacked a comprehensive encyclopedia dedicated specifically to Islamic jurisprudence and its diverse legal discussions. Recognizing this need, scholars and institutions in Kuwait initiated a major project to compile an encyclopedia of Islamic fiqh that would systematically present important rulings and scholarly interpretations.

After the completion of this important work, efforts were made to translate it into widely spoken Muslim languages so that a larger audience could benefit from it. Since Urdu is one of the major languages spoken by Muslims in South Asia, including Pakistan, India, and surrounding regions, the Islamic Fiqh Academy in New Delhi undertook the responsibility of publishing the Urdu version of this encyclopedia.
